In the 1870 census, Levi appears in Gilmer County with his wife Louisa Plemmons, age 19. No children.
In the 1880 census, Levi and Louisa appear in Gilmer County with their children:
-William R, 11
-Willy L, 9
-Melvina E, 1
Levi died in 1900, but does not appear in his family's 1900 census. In 1900, Louisa appears in Gilmer County. Her census record shows that she has 9 living children out of 13 children total. Since 8 children's names can be gleaned from the census records, we know that she had one child who was "lost" in the gap between the 1880 census and the 1900 census, and 4 children who died in infancy or at young ages. The child who was "lost in the gap" was John Christopher Plemmons, who never appears in a census record with his family. However, we know that he is the missing child because of family information provided by his daughter, Lillie Plemmons Land.
(Although it is technically possible that a child born in 1881 had died in 1899, for example, it is far more likely that her "missing children" died very young.)
