Nellie Harris Plemmons never held a public job, but was a successful homemaker, raising seven children to adulthood. Later in life, she lost a kidney, but lived to be 90 years old. Nellie's brother Kimsey was the grandfather of Georgia Governor Joe Frank Harris (1982-1988); Joe Frank often kept in contact with the Harris family.

Nellie and her husband John Christopher (Chris) attended Salem Baptist Church; Nellie was a member, but Chris never joined because the church frowned upon drinking alcohol, and Chris owned a vineyard and occasionally drank his own wine. They are buried at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Gilmer County, Georgia. (Information provided by Edgar Land, grandson of Nellie and Chris)
