Daughter Edith Poapst spelled her mother's married name "Poaps" on a postcard dated 19 February 1907. Later family records and photographs consistently have "Poapst." A postcard from another person has "Popps." These variations occur in other Canadian and American branches of the family.

According to The Town of Polk website (http://www.tn.polk.wi.gov/), the town of Polk, Wisconsin had its boundaries established by the U.S. government around 1830. The town's Cedar Creek flows out of Cedar Lake and is a tributary of the Milwaukee River. "By 1846, 14 families lived in Cedar Creek."

According to Wayne, Poapst, descendant of Curtis Poapst's brother Alexander, Curtis "married a girl from Prince Edward County which lies in Lake Ontario between Kingston and Belleville, near the town of Picton." ⁷
