  General Notes:

From http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~poaps/Biographies.htm:
Jonas came to Canada in 1780 because of the part he played in the American Revolution. In his Claim for losses dated at Montreal, 28 Feb 1788, Jonas says he always took an active part in favour of Great Britain and was taken prisoner by the Rebels in 1778 for assisting British Scouts. He was tried for his life at Esopus for murder. He broke loose and escaped to Canada after being four weeks in distress in the woods. He never served in any corps. He had 4 sons in the army and resides in New Johnstown. He had 50 acres of improved land on the Delaware. He had built himself a house and a barn and stable, all burnt and destroyed by the rebels. He drove his cattle to Col. Butler. He lost 9 horses, 30 sheep, 2 calves, 12 hogs and furniture and farming utensils and a loom and crops in the barn. Jonas Jr. and Ben were in the Butler's Rangers; William, John, and Roger were listed in the Kings Royal Regiment of New York. The 2 youngest- Nathan and Steve were naturally too young to fight. The mother Sarah after a hazardous journey reunited with her husband and sons on the Isle of Jesus in the St. Lawrence.

".. John m Abigail Drew (see below). .. Various members of this very extensive Wood Family have their names on early Deeds in Osgoode Township. When Jonas Sr made his will 19 April 1817, he was living in the 3rd con Cornwall and left land in Williamsburg and Osnabruck Townships.

"By the 1851 census of Mountain Township, John Wood was 86 years old and living in the household of his son John and their children. Their home at that time was near Harmony. But by the Osgoode Census of 1842, many of John and Abigail's children were in Osgoode. And they were well acquainted with Pioneer Life and could buy and sell improved land to the newer immigrants from Ireland and Scotland. For this reason we find them in various locations at different periods. There was Adam, Leonard, Stephen as well as those mentioned below. And they were near the Rideau, near Vernon, Spring Hill, Metcalfe, Russell.

"The family of John Wood (1764-1852) and Abigail Drew were 12 in number: Robert b 1790; William b 1793; Benjamin b 1797; Margaret (twin) b 1797 m Alexander Ross and had John (1818-1824) and Mary (1822-1823) - both children dying young; John b 1800 m Ann Cook - see below; Isabella b 1804 m Peter Papst of Cornwall, also a U.E. family, one that had come from the Schoharie Valley and has descendants in Osgoode; Stephen b 1805; Ann b 1807 m Rudolph Poapst (Papst etc.) and settled early in Osgoode; Robert b 1810 m Catherine (?) and was living in Osgoode in 1842; in 1860 he was living east of Vernon on lot 39 con 8 - family: John William, Henry Benjamin, Joseph, Samuel, Matthias, Sarah Ann, Isabella, Christina, Lucy Fleming[,] Catherine Margaret, Robert, George, William; Sarah b 1814; Benjamin Paul b May 23, 1817."
