According to researcher Elfed Owen, Gwen John Evan was not herself a Quaker but had several relatives, including her stepmother, who were. Her father, John ap Evan, was a "staunch church man" and remained so in spite of his wife's Quaker faith.

  Noted events in her life were:

• Will, 1730. In the will she mentions her children Elizabeth, Grace and Hugh. The will may also mention her son Owen Robert, born in 1684.

Gwen married Robert ap Hugh of Llwyndedwydd, son of Hugh ap Edward and Unknown. (Robert ap Hugh of Llwyndedwydd was born about 1645 in Wales and died in 1692.)
