George and Eva were 1rst cousins. George served in the militia during the War of 1812, he may have participated in the Battle of Crysler?s Farm, 11 Nov, 1813. Later in 1875, the Parliament of Canada passed an act to reward the surviving participants, there is a record of George?s application for the Gratuity in the Parliamentary Sessional Papers of 1876 (#7, page 33), housed in the National Library in Ottawa.
