According to the United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada (http://www.uelac.org/Loyalist-Info/detail.php?letter=b&line=135) Joseph, 1780 [1779]-1814, killed at the battle of Chippawa, was the son of Jacob Bastedo (1743-1833) and Clarissa Jean Van Slyke.
