From http://cybergata.com/roots/1941.htm : Information. 157 Sir Richard de Hoghton, son of Sir Adam de Houghton returned as knight of the shire for Lancaster in 1383, 1403. He died in 1415. His wife was Joanna Radcliff, daughter of Sir Richard de Radcliff. Their dauther married sir John Southworth, son of Gilbert de Southworth. ~ Genalogy of the Southworths (Southards), pg. 2 • Background Information. 688 Sir Richard, the elder brother, and Robert Clifton, were returned as Knights of the Shire for Lancaster in 1383. He was also returned in 1403, with Sir Nicholas Heverington, Knight. In this year the Sheriffs were directed to levy twenty-seven pounds for their coming, attendance, and returning, computing sixty-nine days. In 1365, he had license to inclose and impark at Houghton, as appears from the Patent Rolls. He found a Chantry in the church Ribchester in 1506, and died in 1425. His wife was named Jane. Their children were: Adam de Hogton, who died before his father. Catherine, married Hugh Venables, Baron of Kinderton. William Edward, who held lands in Preston and Writtingron, and is supposed to be the progenitor of the Hoghtons of Sussex. [Visitation of Sussex in 1634] Helen Margaret, married Sir John Southworth of Salmesbury, Knight Thomas, who was the progenitor of Peter Hoghton, of London, Alderman, who died 31 Ded 1593.
