Notes from FamilySearch Pedigree Resource File:

SS # is 441-05-4036. Buried in Coal Creek Cemetery,(Williams Cemetery) Divorced Laura White on May 25, 1930, the same year of their marriage, done in Miami. Louis, Ollie, James and Denzil are buried in William's Cemetery near Cole Creek off Route 10, 2 miles W and 1 mile N of Miami. I believe Ina is buried there, also.Below is a narrative by his son, Louis Dean. "He was born the 9th child of George and Gracie, His early childhood was spent on a farm near Centralia, Oklahoma. He completed less than 4 years of formal schooling, all in a one room school house near his home in Centralia. As he told the story, one day he arrived at school with a "chaw" of tobacco in his mouth, only to forget to discard it before entering the classroom. He wasn't prepared to ask the teacher to be excused, so ended up swallowing the tobacco juice until he became ill. He said he was sick all over his bench and the people around him, which resulted in a "caneing" from the teacher. He said he left, never to return. He left the family farm in the late 1920s, moving to Miami where he worked at a variety of jobs. He also commenced doing odd jobs for George L. Coleman at the time, a job that lasted the better part of the next 45 years. In 1932, he met and married Ollie Ann Barger. In 1937 Ollie wad diagnosed with tuberculosis which required Louis and Ollie to move to a drier climate. They took son Denzil, than a baby still in arms, and moved to Canon City, Fremont County, Colorado. Don and Dean, the two older sons, remained in Oklahoma with their Barger grandparents and family. In the spring of 1940, Louis sent for Don and Dean as it was evident that Ollie would not recover and wanted her family with her at her death. She died in the early morning hours of 23 May, 1941, with her family and a brother and sister at her bedside. She was alert as death approached, holding Louis' hand and giving each of her three sons a hug. We stood on the metal foot railing of her bed as she died. We watched as Dad closed her eyes and listed as he explained that our Mother "was now in heaven". Ollie was returned to Miami, Oklahoma, where she was buried. Louis returned to work for the Coleman family, and relatives, Aunt Josie Grier, cared for us three boys. We were often at the farm of our Grandparents Barger, where we sometimes stayed for weeks. In early 1942, Dad was drafted into WWII, but was deferred as the sole support for three sons. In 1943 he met Ina Virginia Page(Jefferies), who he married in 1944. Three daughters and one son were born of this union. Louis continued to work for the Coleman family until he was forced by a heart condition to retire in 1971. He was a rather small man, standing 5'8" and weighing about 140 pounds. His favorite pastime was fishing and reading western novels. In the years after his retirement, he sustained a number of strokes, recovering from each. On 2 June, 1979, he called me, a rather unusual event since he was from the old school that didn't make long distance phone calls, informing that he did not feel well. I called brother Don, who lived in Oklahoma near Dad, and asked that he take Dad to a doctor. Don called on 4 June informing that Dad was hospitalized, with a diagnosis of cancer; that I should get home immediately. He died 9 June, 1979, and was buried next to Ollie in the family grave plot."
