Research Notes: Wife - Eleanor Thompson Wallace
A great deal of information is from an email to Lorna Wallace Johnson from Virginia Wallace on 29 April 2002. Gina had met Eleanor in a Washington State nursing home (Seattle area) & related details of a conversation, Eleanor's reminiscences. Pertinent text of the email follows:
Eleanor was born Eleanor Wallace in 1914, in Long Beach, of parents Edward and Eleanor. I believe she said her father was a banker.
Eleanor's brothers: John and Bill.
Eleanor's sisters: Margery, editor of the women's section of the morning newspaper "Long Beach Sun"; and sister Jean.
Eleanor married Henry Marshall from Virginia, a naval officer, "the only way to leave Long Beach in those days." The social worker told me her husband retired an Admiral. He is now deceased.
Eleanor's children all live in Seattle: John (owns a bookstore), Mark (a lawyer), Susan (retired), Betsy (retired).
Eleanor remember visiting a house in Laguna Beach and playing on the beach.
Eleanor remembers a "rich old Uncle Frank with a mansion on a hill, yes, like a castle." She remembered an organ and wonderful food.
Eleanor remembered an old uncle who was Lt. Governor of Valifornia
Eleanor rememberd "Lorna, she was a baby, we called her baby."
Eleanor remembers Uncle William, Lind, Stanley, Donald.

"This list of taxables is recorded in Reverend Ethan Allen's book entitled Historical Sketches of St. Paul's Parish in Baltimore County, Maryland which he compiled in 1855. A copy is available in the Maryland Historical Society Library in Baltimore. Each person named therein is followed by a number which represents the number of taxables in his house. This list, in 1774, ony gives the household head by name. The list also contains names of persons in Rev. Hauntings at Woodlawn Cemetery (from http://www.forgottenoh.com/Counties/Lawrence/woodland.html ) :
"Woodland Cemetery in Ironton is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young woman whose abusive husband killed her by throwing her down a flight of stairs. A life-sized statue of her stands above her grave, and a handprint appears on its cheek even after the cheek has been sandblasted. The statue is supposed to be warm all the time, even in the coldest months.
"Woodlawn is also said to be home to the ghost of a Russian ballerina, who is entombed in one of the family mausoleums. Her likeness is carved into the mausoleum. On nights with full moons, it is said, you can see her dancing outside her final resting place.
"Dr. Joseph W. Lowry also haunts Woodland, seeking vengeance for his murder and mutilation. Dr. Lowry is often seen with his mother, who died from a broken neck when she was thrown from her carriage by a spooked horse. They walk together toward the cemetery gates but never make it past the highway bridge. "

From FindaGrave.com:
Jane L. Whisenant was born near Snowball, Searcy Co., Arkansas on February 1, 1878 to the parents of Samuel P. and Mary Irene GATES Whisenant. She was the fourth child and youngest daughter of the Whisenants. She lived in the Snowball area for a while and later migrated with her Father around 1885-1900 to Ozark Co., Missouri.
On December 11, 1904 Jane married William E. Martin, a widower, and they set up a household in the Lick Creek area, Ozark Co., Missouri with William's child. Sometime between 1905-1909 Jane and William had a child but which died soon thereafter. There was apparently no other issue from this marriage.
Later the couple migrated to Shannon Co., Missouri, (where William had previously lived and near other family members). and began farming in the Birch Tree area.
On September 15, 1951, Jane became a widow. At this time, she was already suffering from throat cancer. She subsequently moved to Howell Co., Missouri to be close to her younger brother, Marion Whisenant, and near the hospital in West Plains. Jane died on May 2, 1952 and her body was transported to Shannon County for burial on May 5th in the Corinth Cemetery where her husband was also buried. Marion Whisenant supplied the Informant Information for the MO Death Certificate, #12767.
